A Compassionate Community Service

Supporting Maitland families since 1990

Welcome to Maitland Palliative Care, Volunteers for Palliative Care.

My name is Judith and I have been proudly associated with Volunteers for Palliative Care in Maitland NSW for over 16 years. I began as a volunteer in 1997 and during the following years I have witnessed the development of this vital service and its much valued role within our local community.

I am very passionate about palliative care and know it to be a very special and personal service in an individual’s life. A service that impacts on all family members and friends as well as the person under care. When you hear the words palliative care for the first time, does come as a shock. It also opens up a whole new world where you have lots of questions. It is my hope that our website can answer some of the questions you may have and help you to make the next step.

We have strong ties within the local community, to support you and your family with free respite and emotional and practical support. The form of the respite varies enormously. We support carers by giving them the time to ‘recharge’ their batteries for example, to do the shopping at a less frantic pace or to simply enjoy being out in the garden without the constant popping back into the house to check on things. We do this through an assessment process whereby I come to your home and meet you and discuss your particular needs. I then connect you with a trained volunteer suitable to those hours and needs we have discussed.

Our volunteers have the time to listen and support you as only a palliative care volunteer can – with care, compassion and complete confidentiality.

Please contact us for further information on respite and on behalf of Volunteers for Palliative Care, I extend my sincere thanks for inviting us to be a part of your life.
